Catford WI was set up with an initial meeting in January 2010. It has been a steep learning curve for the committee, organising the monthly programme and keeping up with federation and national initiatives. Friends and acquaintances were contacted to provide talks and demonstrations, as well as holding social events to allow members to get to know each other.
Some of our most successful meetings were a magician, mosaic making, line dancing and learning poker. Our Christmas meeting, making floral
table decorations, had to be cancelled due to the bad weather, but we were able to rearrange the activity in time for Easter.
We had some very successful outings to the Quilting exhibition at the V&A, a production of Calendar Girls and to The Clink restaurant as well as visits to Eltham Palace, The Red House and Downe House.
Our fundraising efforts have included a monthly raffle as well as the sale of books and plants at the meetings. We also held a mystery bottle stall at a local Christmas Fair.
Two members went to the West Kent Annual Council Meeting in 2010 and 2011 and three members attended a cookery demonstration by Brian
Turner at Denman College.
